Work is nearing completion for the Sept. 4 grand opening of a new Emiliano’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar in the McCandless Crossing shopping center.

The restaurant will be located on the west side of the shopping center in front of the Lowe’s home improvement store.

The locally owned restaurant chain, which focuses on Mexican fare at moderate prices, has locations in Pittsburgh’s South Side, Cranberry and the Richland Mall.

The company previously operated an Emiliano’s in McIntyre Square in McCandless, but it was closed in March 2013 after Giant Eagle Inc. purchased the property.

On the Road 2017: Johnston County

July 3rd, 2017

By: Dan Headrick

News & Observor

…Kevin Dougherty is a patient man. Back in 2005, he saw a development opportunity in Johnston County, so he bought a small piece of property along I-95. “Then the recession hit, so we sat it out,” he says. “I was initially interested in 10 acres. Then we went on the hunt for good dirt. Then it went up to 90 acres. Now it’s 245 acres.”

And soon, it will be Eastfield, a proposed regional, mixed-use development at I-95, N.C. 42 (which is soon to be called I-42) and U.S. 70-A that will feature retail, medical, professional offices, hotels, senior living and residential, and potentially, light industrial activity. “We’re still in the land-assembly phase and actually looking at making it a little larger,” Dougherty says.

Five Reasons I’m Encouraged About the Research Triangle Region’s Future

January 13th, 2017

By: Chris Johnson

News & Observer

Op-Ed

Last year, the world said goodbye to a long list of entertainment icons, Britons opted to leave the European Union and an alarmingly caustic tone crept into our own national politics.

Closer to home, a deadly hurricane and massive forest fire punished North Carolina’s landscape. HB2 made the state’s economy ground zero in the latest culture wars. The social legislation complicated the richly competitive process by which urban destinations like Durham and Raleigh vie for Knowledge Age companies and workers.

Still, there is much to be optimistic about regarding the long-term direction of the Research Triangle region in 2017 and beyond. Here are five reasons I am hopeful about our future:

McCandless Crossing Shopping Center Near Capacity…

November 22nd, 2016

by: Tony LaRussa

Trib Live

Except for a few storefronts and a parcel of undeveloped land, the sprawling McCandless Crossing shopping center along McKnight Road is near capacity, according to the project’s developer.

The latest addition to the mixed-use complex in McCandless — Paint Monkey, which features painting classes and parties — opened earlier this month, said Anna Dougherty, spokeswoman for AdVenture Development, based in Selma, N.C.

In October, a Texas Roadhouse steakhouse opened along with the independently owned Rue Boutique, which sells apparel for men and women, beauty products and home furnishings. Since the spring, a Deer Creek Winery outlet, the Gifted Hands Gift Shop, Burgatory, Chipotle and The Joint chiropractic center have been added to the mix.
